The Portuguese name for St. Alex Church in Calangute, Goa is "Santo Aleixo Igreja em Calangute, Goa." The Calangute Church is a common nickname for the St. Alex Church in Calangute, Goa. The Franciscans constructed the original Calangute Church, which had a thatched roof, in 1590. In 1720, a new church was constructed in its place after the old Calangute Church was destroyed. The people built the third and current church in Calangute in 1741.
