Beijing Airport connects various cities around the world, such as Vienna, Delhi, Amsterdam, London, Chicago, and cities in China, such as Baoshan, Anshan, and Shanghai. Major airlines serving this airport include Air China, Air France, American Airlines and Emirates.
  • Road - Beijing is connected to all major cities in China by bus routes. There are buses to the neighboring cities of Tianjin, Datong and Chengde every hour. Beijing is connected by long-distance buses to Shanghai and the Mongolian border. There are also buses to Harbin and Xi'an. There are more than 20 long-distance bus stations in the city, most of which are express or regular buses. Sleeper buses are also available, as sometimes it can take more than 24 hours.

HOW TO GET AROUND

  • Taxi - Taxis are safe, comfortable and relatively inexpensive. However, taxis are not always the fastest way to travel. Beijing's main streets are almost always crowded. If you're traveling long distances or during rush hours, you should take the subway to get to your destination and take a taxi for the rest.
  • Subway - Unaffected by surface traffic, Beijing's subway is efficient and affordable, with new lines and improvements being added frequently. The subway is easy to use, and English maps are available at popular attractions. Tickets start at 3 yuan (about 43 cents) and go up to 9 yuan (about $1.30) depending on the distance.
  • Local Bus - A large fleet of about 30,000 buses transports passengers from point A to point B across the city streets. Seeing passengers rushing past makes you want to hop on the bus, but you need to be prepared before you do. With so many routes, it's easy to get on the wrong bus. Also, during rush hour, buses can get very crowded and it can be difficult to find a stop.
