How to Reach Morne Diablotin National Park

Flying into Melville Hall Airport (DOM) is your first step. Dominica isn't overrun with tourists, so finding a flight might take a little planning. Once you land, the park is about a 24-kilometer drive north, between the capital Roseau, and Portsmouth, the island's second town. Renting a car lets you explore at your own pace, but taxis or organized tours can take you straight to the park entrance if you're feeling lazy.

Exploring the Morne Diablotin National Park
Morne Diablotin National Park, established in 2000, is basically 8,200 acres of lush rainforest playground. Forget fancy cars here, hiking is king. Luckily, there are trails for everyone, from flat and easy to leg-burning treks. The Syndicate Nature Trail is a must for birdwatchers, with a good chance of spotting the endangered Sisserou parrotwhich is the national bird of Dominica. Tackle the climb to Morne Diablotin itself. It's a tough 3-hour hike, but the insane views from the top are totally worth it.

Dominica's Food Scene

Skip the usual tourist stuff and try some local specialties. Start your day with a hearty "buljol" a stew with salted codfish, green bananas, and local veggies. Lunch? "Bulao" is your friend stewed conch or snapper with colorful peppers, onions, and spices. Don't forget "bakes," fried dough pockets for soaking up all those delicious sauces. Dinner is all about "doucine," a sweet potato, coconut, and nutmeg dessert that's basically heaven on a plate.
