How to Reach Black River Gorges National Park

No hassle to get there. In approx 1 hour by car or taxi from the villages of Rivire Noire or Tamarin, you will be there. There are four different entrances, each allowing you to access a specific area of ??the park. Choose your starting point and let's go!

Exploring the Black River Gorges
The park is ideally discovered by walking. More than 50 kilometers of marked trails await you, for all levels. Want a challenge? Aim for Pieter Both, the highest peak on the island. Rather a leisurely stroll? No problem, easier paths wind through the forest. Keep your eyes open, you can come across colorful birds, admire waterfalls and recharge your batteries in the middle of lush vegetation. Don't hesitate to take a lunch break in one of the picnic areas to fully enjoy the setting.

Food to try in Mauritius
After a day of exploration, recharge your batteries. Forget the fish rougail and the dholl puri for a moment (delicious too, we agree), and try some lesser-known things. For example, mine frit, a Mauritian-style fried noodle dish, often accompanied by meat, seafood or vegetables. If you prefer something more substantial, opt for a daube, a slowly simmered Mauritian stew, a real comfort dish.
